Who owns the ELGIN MARBLES?  They are at the British Museum, but Greece would like them back.  The controversy is nothing new, dating back a couple of centuries.  Byron, I discovered, had written about them, claiming that Elgin should not have taken them to England in the first place.  Perhaps the Parthenon Marbles would be a better name (though too many letters to fit at 1-Across).

Does anybody remember Ralph Edwards?  He was big, once.  He was the host for the game show TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES who announced that he’d broadcast the program from any town that changed its name to the name of the show.  In 1950, the little town of Hot Springs, New Mexico, took him up on the offer.

AARON’S ROD was the stave owned by Moses’ brother.  It possessed miraculous powers, and according to tradition it was kept in the Ark of the Covenant.  Aaron’s Rod is also the title of D.H. Lawrence’s 1922 novel about a flautist named Aaron Sissons.
